The following criteria shall be used in considering research activities within the scope of ARCOAST:

• must focus on interactions within the archipelagic environment, and make the information generated available and useful to a wider range of disciplines;
  
  
• must contribute to the promotion of understanding of the archipelagic environment and its impact on Philippine society:
  
  
• must produce concrete policy recommendations and definite plans of action, and/or make significant contributions to the formulation of a policy with respect to the subject of study; and
  
  
• must allow various disciplines and academic units of the UP System to be linked together and reinforce each other's strengths and resources.
